Anyone who has come to Georgian Bay has travelled along a few well-trafficked roads, most notably Highway 400 and 69.  While the name ‘King’s Highway’ started to fall away in the 1990s, the crown shape remains on the signs along the highway.  The provincial highway system, includes over 16,000 km of highway across the province and is still being worked on today.  Highway 400, the original controlled access highway, was opened between Toronto and Barrie in 1952 and since then has grown all the way to Parry Sound.
