Killarney, named for the town in Ireland, has had a long history and even more interesting geology. Straddling two distinct geologic regions, there is a band of the pink granite, that feature prominently in photos of the region. This unique pink rock was exposed after the last ice age, and it’s distinct colour created by feldspar, one of the many minerals that can change the colour of the stones in the region. Killarney is a popular destinations for boaters, kayakers, canoeists and hikers who come for the clear blue water, white quartz La Cloche mountains and incredible vistas.
