Capreol, north of Sudbury came into existence because of the railroad. The station, which served as major hub in the Canadian National (CN) railway and still serves today as a stop on the Via Rail transcontinental The Canadian train service, was the hub around which the town formed. The legacy of the railroad is still strong in the community, now part of the City of Greater Sudbury, as it is home to the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum. The heritage attraction resides in the heart of the community and has incorporated the former superintendents home, as well as Prescott Park.
